Unfortunately, creative writing is one of these profession that is very competitive. There is going to be far more losers than winners, regardless of how many self-help gurus tell us to never quit our dream.

Last fall, I had opportunity to try the "write something every day" trick. I had 49 articles in 54 days, all about the TDG. My popularity did not increase. I kind of exhausted what I wanted to say.

Since then, I write mostly for fun and catharsis. Maybe 4-5 articles a month as I get inspired. I keep saying I should quit Medium, but it keeps bringing me back. I have learned some new things in the past three years--and read some great books from Medium recommendations.

When I started Medium, Umair, Jessica, and whole bunch of top writers were on my feed. Medium has an interest in hooking newbies, and maybe Medium believes these writers are good at creating those hooks. I still get top writers on my feed that I never click. I don't think this is an accident. Whether this is right or wrong is a moot point. Medium makes the decision to set up its algorithms. It has wages and bills to pay.
