Unfortunately, even a 70/30 split of D to R across the USA will not cause the R's to go back to their burrows and come back out with a new way of thinking.

The American War of Independence only had 1/3 of Americans supporting it. One-third were Loyalist. One-third just wanted the upcoming war to be over quickly. But the patriotic 1/3 were much more motivated and the 13 colonies eventually took their path to history.

A coup needs only 30% of the population to back it. Maybe even 20%. The behavior of the Republican Party is such that it sees a coup in the future. This coup will put them in a higher pecking order than where they are now.

When I first put out my "Tiered Democratic Governance" concept in 2000, I thought the USA has at least 20 years to build the TDG before it falls apart. In 2021, I'm not seeing that 20-year time frame. Even 10 years sounds too optimistic.

Of course it is still possible that Mr. Trump could die or the smart people in Washington can keep American democracy bumbling along. But that is only setting the stage for a political leader smarter than Mr. Trump.

No, a heavy D turnout in 2022 or 2024 will not hold back this historical tide.
