Unfortunately, my uncle passed away. I'm not sure whether the story was ever recorded.

Another uncle fought in the Italy. When he was started to lapse into dementia, his sons put him in front of tape recorder. He talked and talked. The transcript were wonderful. He tells the story of being alone in a forest and encountering a German soldier who was also alone. Somehow they agreed to not shoot each other--and walked backwards to their front lines.
