We can bury the stuff in unused underground mines and maybe the people several centuries from now will have some radiactivity issue to deal with. OR we can keep this stuff at surface, percolating and waiting for a disaster to break the tanks.

Whether we like the nuclear power industry or not, this decision needs to be made.

In my mind, the mineshaft idea is the better choice.
