I would disagree with your assessment as "conservatives" as having superior wisdom and need to be shouted down. As the decades have passed, I'm finding more conservative people not being able to defend their views with logic--and tend to shout down those who have different ideas. That particular paragraph could easily be just as true replacing "conservative" with "liberal."
