Well, your occupation explains things. You can put idle time to good use while getting paid.

Too many Medium contributors (like myself) spend several hours on an article to earn $5. We also spend hours trying to build a following here. For sure, time could be spent on more fruitful activities. Yet we continue.

I used to be a libertarian-----------until I figured out that libertarians have little use for educating children of the lower classes. In their world, I would not have understood what a libertarian was.

You have cited several examples of progressive policies of bettering the lives of everyone. One of my favorites is the banning of leaded gasoline. When an American state banned lead, its crime rate went down 20 years later.

Some of the anti-government rhetoric is against the many laws around food safety. But firing all the food inspectors (saving taxpayer money) will mean a lot more food poisoning--and hospital bills.
