What worked in the 60s and 70s is working less and less today. Maybe a few people are starting to figure this out.

Anyways, I of the thinking that we need a balance of self-reliance and collective action. Our current systems of governance do a rather poor job of finding that balance.

For example, every 2-3 years some Members of Parliament band together to draft legislation to force the Canada banks to reduce the interest rate on credit cards. This takes an immense amount of time that could be spent on other things. Better to accept that the credit card owners entered willingly into a contract and willingly spent too much money. There is no need to draft legislation to address this "atrocity."
