Wishful thinking, I presume?
In his Foundation series, SF writer Isaac Asimov prophesized that democracy has a shelf life of two to three centuries--before it collapses in on itself.

There is no way Mr. Trump would have been elected as president in 2004 and 2008. Yet something in American society changed to allow his election in 2016. And in case you didn't notice last November, 30% of Virginians voted for a party is all but saying out loud that it wants a one-party rule. This 30% is all across the USA. Canada's "Trucker Protest" was more about a right-wing agenda to take over than truckers not wanting to take vaccines; Canadian society might be at 15% support for such a takeover. Coups do not need 50%+1 to take effect. Read Asimov's Foundation.
We can argue that American democracy limited the actions of Mr. Trump in his four years of office. And it voted him voted out. Sorry I don't consider a 81m to a 74m vote count as a resounding defeat. Mr. Trump was a viable contender in 2020. If he is still alive in 2024, he will still be a viable contender.
We need a system of governance where the likes of Mr. Trump do not rise too high. You know I have a solution for that--which warrant some investigation.
Russia too needs such a system. Astute Russians would probably be more successful building a TDG than trying to adapt some version of western democracy in their country.
We need to look beyond western democracy.
