With my meager understanding of monetarist economics, this article seems to be reasonable. But I don’t believe the wizards at the central banks really understand how this increase in money supply is going to turn out a few years down the road.
Here’s what should have been done.
- A pandemic like Covid-19 should have been planned for before it actually happened. Not only should a lot of medical supplies been stockpiled in advance, the economists should have spent several months developing an economic plan to handle this disaster. Put that plan on the shelf.
- When the pandemic hits, pull the plan out. Enact it.
- As the situation unfolds, see how the plan is working. Create a few new social programs to address a few things that the original plan seems to have missed.
Wouldn’t this have been better than governments creating plans on the fly?
With the exception of Germany (maybe), western democracy failed miserably at preparing for a pandemic. If there is any sign that western democracy needs to be replaced by a better system of governance, I really can’t think of one (except maybe authoritarian rule suddenly appearing and voices like mine somehow disappearing).
Surprisingly, I get about 100 visits a month to my website, mostly from my Medium links. But very few of you get past the land paging. You take a look and see that you might have to spend a couple hours of reading to understand a new system of governance. You say: “Oh no, I can’t do that. It is better use of my spare time to write and read more anti-Trump articles.”
Now I have made it a little easier for you. I have written a novel about how the early TDG builders are going to put this new system of governance together. It’s actually not that difficult. While this novel is still a couple hours of reading, this story is a lighter read and more entertaining. And you will learn some new things about political science and community building along the way.
The world’s future is in your hands. Writing and reading more anti-Trump articles is not going to move the world forward.
