With the many flaws of the founding fathers, the one thing they got right was the realm of independent politicians. Their vision that elected representatives would be discussing each issue independent of all the other issues.

Unfortunately, a few ambitious men with questionable talents for governance started banding together and this gave them an electoral advantage over the indepedent thinkers. By 1820, the parties were firmly in place.

Today, non-partisan independents have a almost zero chance in winning elections. I don't see this changing with the current system.

But, as you know, I have solution for more indepedents. But it will require a little effort and sacrifice and patience. Wishful thinking will not bring it about.
