Yep, we could head in that direction. But I prefer talking about ways we can thwart this decay.

Currently I’m reading “Political Order and Political Decay”. Very insightful into the reasons why strong states come into being and why they decay. I haven’t got to the author’s solution yet — and I suspect there is none.
