You might be right in this prediction. It is one of several possibilities.

I don't see the former and current "appeasement" approaches as anything that is sinister or weak. Those in high places had to make decisions that reflected both realities and the will of the people they were governing. As well, the "good guys" have their own bad history which does not put on high moral ground.

Our current systems of governance are incapable of dealing with these kinds of situations in a rightful and timely way.

It's time for a new way.
